π Peer Pressure, Panic & a Bali Waterslide: A Life Lesson Reinforced π
π± The Lessons I Learned in Bali… All Started with a Closed Waterslideπ
Yep. That’s me in the photo — eyes clamped shut, mid-meltdown on a ride my boys swore I had to try. πI can assure you... I was VERY hesitant to post a photo of me in my swimmers !! π³
But there’s a powerful message behind it — and it’s too important not to share.
Let me set the scene:
We’re at a waterpark in Bali. It’s hot, it’s loud, and somehow I’ve been peer-pressured into riding the park’s most “extreme” slide.
The catch? It’s a fully enclosed tube (which started out open and went into a big drop!)— dark, tight, and absolutely not built for claustrophobics like me. π¬ I felt the anxiety rising the moment I stepped into the queue… but I’d already waited 20 minutes. And my kids were watching. π³
So I did the scary thing.
I got in, heart pounding… and hoped for the best.
And what happened?
π 60 seconds of sheer panic
π Followed by loud, messy laughter at the bottom
π Then I ran back up and did it three more times π
π‘ Lesson 1: The things that scare you? They often lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
Fear. Discomfort. Uncertainty. They’re not stop signs — they’re signals that growth is close.
When you stretch your edges, you discover new parts of yourself.
(And sometimes your new favourite ride. π’)
βοΈ Lesson 2: Wisdom at 30,000 feet
On the flight home, I picked up The 5am Club — a book I’ve meant to read forever, and somehow it practically jumped off the shelf at the airport.
It got me right in the feels by page 9:
“The place where your greatest discomfort lies is also the spot where your largest opportunity lives.”
And again, on page 17:
“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.”
Just like that waterslide.
Whether it’s launching something new, tackling a tricky scenario, or putting yourself out there — if it makes you nervous, you’re probably on the right track. π
βοΈ Lesson 3: The power of pressing pause
No phone. No emails. No to-do lists.
Just sunshine, stillness, and space to breathe.
Bali reminded me: disconnection is productive.
When you unplug, you reset. And when you reset, you rebuild momentum that actually lasts.
